A Mayaro man who raped, buggered and then beat his ex-girlfriend on June 6 has been arrested.
The man was initially held but managed to escape custody on June 11, as he was being questioned by police.
Police said the 33-year-old woman was at the suspect’s home at Plaisance Road, Mayaro, when they reportedly got into a heated argument.
It was alleged the verbal exchange escalated, with the suspect subsequently forcing the victim to have sex, during which time he buggered her, before beating her with a piece of cable wire.
The woman later went to the Mayaro Police Station and filed a complaint. Medical checks confirmed she was sexually and physically assaulted.
Following investigations, officers located the suspect on June 11 at his home. As they moved to arrest him, the suspect pulled away, jumped through a window and escaped.
Officers in the Mayaro district carried out an anti-crime operation around 6.30 pm on June 11 and were finally able to arrest the suspect. —ALP
