Ex-boyfriend held for buggery, beating in Mayaro

A Ma­yaro man who raped, bug­gered and then beat his ex-girl­friend on June 6 has been ar­rest­ed.

The man was ini­tial­ly held but man­aged to es­cape cus­tody on June 11, as he was be­ing ques­tioned by po­lice.

Po­lice said the 33-year-old woman was at the sus­pect’s home at Plai­sance Road, Ma­yaro, when they re­port­ed­ly got in­to a heat­ed ar­gu­ment.

It was al­leged the ver­bal ex­change es­ca­lat­ed, with the sus­pect sub­se­quent­ly forc­ing the vic­tim to have sex, dur­ing which time he bug­gered her, be­fore beat­ing her with a piece of ca­ble wire.

The woman lat­er went to the Ma­yaro Po­lice Sta­tion and filed a com­plaint. Med­ical checks con­firmed she was sex­u­al­ly and phys­i­cal­ly as­sault­ed.

Fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions, of­fi­cers lo­cat­ed the sus­pect on June 11 at his home. As they moved to ar­rest him, the sus­pect pulled away, jumped through a win­dow and es­caped. 

Of­fi­cers in the Ma­yaro dis­trict car­ried out an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion around 6.30 pm on June 11 and were fi­nal­ly able to ar­rest the sus­pect. —ALP
