Farley Chavez Augustine is the youngest Chief Secretary to take over the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
According to Augustine’s profile on the Progressive Democratic Patriots website, Augustine was raised in the eastern village of Speyside and he credits his values and achievements all to this village that raised him.
According to the site, Augustine’s education began with nursery and primary school in Speyside before he went to Bishop’s High School.
Augustine, a teacher by profession, completed studies in Linguistics and International Relations at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.
According to the PDP page, Augustine was active in student politics at UWI and served on the Mona Guild executive.
The page says that Augustine is a “well-travelled leader” and represented T&T in Australia, North America, West Africa, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.
The PDP says that Augustine is still the Vice President of the Sidey’s Football Club and remains a member of the Speyside village council.
Augustine, the PDP says, was instrumental in the formation of the Speyside Steel Sensations. Augustine also dabbled in journalism and was an Opinion Editorial writer for the now-defunct Tobago News and a regular talk show host for Tobago Channel 5. Augustine also taught for seven years.
In a video clip shared on social media, back in 2017 a younger Augustine was speaking on a podium and predicted then that he would one day sit as Chief Secretary.
In another video posted three years ago, Augustine marked the two-year anniversary of his entering politics under the PDP.
In the clip on his LinkedIn page, Augustine said that then that he met with all the political parties in Tobago before choosing the PDP because it was the “only party to take Tobago forward.”
