As the Tobago House of Assembly executive approaches its second year in office after its 2021 THA election win, Minority Leader Kelvon Morris says it is time for a reshuffle of secretaries.

However, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has told him the issue is not his business.

In January, Augustine said a reshuffle was on the cards and had promised it would take effect at the end of that month.

Speaking at a media conference yesterday, Morris said the island has been stagnant for almost two years, as there is no record of any major investment, projects or developmental works.

“The time has come for the Chief Secretary to review the functions of all the various divisions of the THA and perhaps do some reshuffling. There are Tobagonians who are out there and experienced, willing able and capable.

“Now might be the time for us to take a true all of Tobago approach to ensure that we get the job done by people who are capable, by people who are competent and by people who are committed,” Morris said.

Sending a message directly to Augustine, Morris said: “You (Augustine) promised us a reshuffle since last Christmas and I’m asking you to gift the people of Tobago who are waiting to exhale.”

In an immediate response, however, Augustine told Guardian Media that Morris had no business calling on him to make executive council rearrangements.

Augustine asked, “How is the construct of the executive any business of Mr Morris? Minority Leaders have no say in that process. That is between the people of Tobago and the party and executive I lead.

“Why doesn’t he call on his political leader to get rid of Minister (Fitzgerald) Hinds and other non-performers in the Cabinet? What happens in PNM is his business. What happens on my team isn’t any of his business.”
