After almost a month of silence, Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Farley Augustine is expected to make a statement on a controversial audio recording of two persons discussing plans to hire persons in the THA to promote propaganda.
That’s the word from THA Secretary of Education, Research and Technology Zorisha Hackett, who was asked to comment on the issue yesterday at a 4H Tobago Council installation ceremony at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex in Scarborough.
THA officials have so far not responded to calls to clear the air on the issue or comment on claims that the voices in the recording sound like two members of the THA Executive Council.
Yesterday, Deputy Chief Secretary Dr Faith B. Israel said Augustine will address the matter in due time.
“The Executive Council decided a long time ago that we will allow the Chief Secretary to make a comment about that and we are allowing him to do that and that will come soon,” she told reporters after a grant distribution ceremony at the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection.
“When the Chief Secretary is ready, which will be soon, you will hear him comment about it. We definitely have to sit and wait for the Chief Secretary to speak. When he speaks you will understand the situation, you will understand the silence, you will understand everything we have been treating and you will then say, ‘Ah, now I get it. “
Former Deputy Chief Secretary Watson Duke said he will also have his say on the widely circulated recording after Augustine breaks his silence.
“What I want to say on the voice note is I await the Chief Secretary, the person who holds himself out as the Chief Secretary to speak on that matter. I have a lot to say on that, a lot to say on that voice note specifically and I am holding back on that,” Duke, leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP), said at a press conference at the party’s Port Mall office yesterday.
