A fire de­stroyed a two-storey con­crete build­ing along the South­ern Main Road in St Mar­garet’s Vil­lage short­ly be­fore 4 am yes­ter­day.

A res­i­dent alert­ed po­lice af­ter hear­ing crack­ling sounds and notic­ing the build­ing en­gulfed in flames.

Of­fi­cers were told the build­ing was un­oc­cu­pied, as its 87-year-old own­er had been re­lo­cat­ed to an el­der­ly care home ear­li­er this year. No in­juries were re­port­ed.
