Officers of the Southern Division arrested two persons and seized an AR-15 rifle and rounds of ammunition during two anti-crime exercises in the San Fernando district on Tuesday.
Around 5:55 pm, a team of officers including Ag/Sgt Seecharan, PC Marcus, PC Laloo, PC Adams, PC Hosein, and PC Ramsaroop were on operational duty when they proceeded to a residence at Latchoos Road, Debe, based on intelligence information. The officers entered the premises under the authority of Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations and conducted a search. During the search, the officers found one AR-15 rifle containing twenty-three rounds of 5.56mm ammunition concealed inside a speaker box in a storeroom area.
The occupant of the premises, a 40-year-old female, was cautioned and arrested. She was taken to the San Fernando Police Station. She is expected to be formally charged for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of Ammunition.
Earlier that day, around 2:50 pm, the same team conducted a similar operation at Tarouba Road, Marabella. Acting on intelligence information, the officers entered the premises under Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations and carried out a search.
During the search, officers discovered three rounds of .45 calibre ammunition and one round of 5.56mm ammunition hidden inside a multi-coloured sneaker. The occupant of the premises, an 18-year-old male, was arrested and conveyed to the San Fernando Police Station.
He is expected to be formally charged for possession of ammunition.
