Residents of Fishing Pond, Sangre Grande, say they will withhold their votes on April 28 if the deplorable roads in their community are not fixed by then.
“No road, no vote!” they chanted as they protested the huge potholes along Flemming and Genda Roads on Thursday morning.
The residents say the roads have been in poor condition for years, but their current state is the worst they have ever seen. Lutchmi Persad told Guardian Media that taxi drivers avoid working along those roads, and to get some relief, residents have had to patch the potholes themselves. They believe they deserve better.
The residents also say that people no longer visit the Turtle Fishing Pond in their community, and they fear that if the roads are not repaired before election day, they will be forced to endure these deplorable conditions for another five years.
