Flight operations at Piarco International Airport resumed on Friday after an early morning fire at the Amerijet warehouse facility at the South Terminal forced a temporary shutdown, according to the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Authority said it received clearance to restart operations from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service and the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority.
During the suspension, international flights were temporarily diverted to the ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago.
The fire triggered an immediate emergency response by the Piarco Fire Station, with support from the Arima Fire Station. “The fire is now under control,” the Authority said.
Although flights have resumed, passengers may still experience delays. “Passengers are encouraged to liaise with their respective airlines for the latest flight information,” the Authority said.
The Authority thanked the travelling public and stakeholders “for their patience and cooperation” and said it remained committed to ensuring “the safety, security, and efficiency of operations at Piarco International Airport.”
