Former tourism secretary Hilton Sandy was robbed during a home invasion on Tuesday night.
According to reports, five men jumped a fence behind Sandy’s Bacolet Gardens property before smashing a glass door to enter the house.
The 80-year-old former politician, who suffered a stroke in 2013, was not harmed. The men reportedly stole cash and other items before escaping.
Speaking briefly to Guardian Media at his home on Wednesday, Sandy thanked God for his life. He complained, however, that his throat was hurting.
His caregiver, who asked to remain anonymous, said Sandy was upbeat but still shaken by the incident. She said she remained traumatised.
Snr Supt Rodhil Kirk said police would do all in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“I have confidence in my officers; they will bring some sort of resolution to this matter in the shortest possible time. I know the person involved is a public figure, but notwithstanding that, we are doing all that we can do,” he said.
Investigations are ongoing.
