Four men, including a 13-year-old boy, have been arrested in connection with an alleged robbery at the Sangre Grande Fire Station in the early hours of October 27.
Reports indicate the theft occurred between 1 am and 2.10 am. One fire officer, who had just completed his shift, discovered his mobile phone, charger, cologne, and headset were missing as he prepared to leave the station to collect the officer relieving him. Another officer reported his phone and watch were also stolen.
Alerted to the situation, other officers conducted a thorough search of the compound. After speaking with nearby residents, one of the victims learned that several young men from the area had been seen walking around the station.
Meanwhile, a third officer noticed the driver’s door of his van was open, and items including a phone charger, lighter, and two packs of cigarettes were missing. The officers contacted the Sangre Grande Police Station and were instructed to come in to file a formal report.
As they prepared to leave around 2.45 am, residents informed them that the same group of young men had been seen walking towards the Sangre Grande Hospital. Fire officers and colleagues intercepted the group outside the hospital and questioned them. Several reportedly confessed to stealing the officers’ belongings, while a few denied involvement.
The four suspects were taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station and handed over to authorities. Fire officers later confirmed that the station’s cafeteria had also been broken into during the incident.
