Four people, including a child, died on Saturday night after the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed off the southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Claxton Bay overpass.
Among the four dead were Steve Elder, 40, of Cunupia and Kizzy Cato, 38, of Erica Street, Laventille.
Investigators said around 10 pm on Saturday, an informant reported that a white Hyundai Creta, registration PDY 8181, was travelling at high speed when it veered off the road, overturned, and landed in a wooded area between the ramp and the main carriageway of the Solomon Hochoy Highway, near the Claxton Bay Overpass.
When police and emergency responders arrived, they found four occupants unresponsive inside the vehicle—three adults and a child.
One adult male, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
District Medical Officer Dr Coldero visited the scene and ordered the bodies removed to the Forensic Science Centre.
A third adult female and the female child have not yet been identified. The injured man has since been transferred to the Point Fortin Hospital for a CT scan.
Police investigations are ongoing. Guardian Media will provide updates as more information becomes available.
