Two peo­ple are dead fol­low­ing an at­tempt­ed rob­bery at La Pas­to­ra Road in San­ta Cruz this morn­ing.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that around 5.45am, a 66-year-old man parked his van by the spring on Up­per Moun­tain View Dri­ve to wash it.

While there, a grey Nis­san Cube pulled up and two men emerged an­nounc­ing a hold up. The vic­tim, who is an FUL hold­er, threw the keys at the sus­pects and as they picked it up, he be­gan dis­charg­ing sev­er­al rounds in their di­rec­tion.

The dri­ver of the ve­hi­cle was hit sev­er­al times and at­tempt­ed to dri­ve off but crashed in­to an em­bank­ment not far away. The vic­tim lat­er checked on the dri­ver and dis­cov­ered it was a woman.

An­oth­er sus­pect who was hit and died at hos­pi­tal while the third sus­pect re­mains on the run.
