Four days after he succumbed to cancer, the funeral for the late Presbyterian minister Rev Kendrick Sooknarine will take place on Monday at the Sushamachar Presbyterian Church.
Speaking to Guardian Media on Sunday, Sooknarine's wife Angi Benjamin said they were married for 30 years.
She said Rev Sooknarine battled cancer for three months before he died.
"He was diagnosed with Stage four colon cancer and he died at home on Thursday. He was an outdoor person and was a student of the Master's programme of Theology," Mrs Benjamin said.
Benjamin said her husband devoted 40 years of his life to serving at the Presbyterian Church.
"He was very active in building the youth ministry. He was a lecturer at the Cipriani Labour College, lecturing in ethics, and also a lecturer at the St Andrew's Theological College."
Sooknarine and Benjamin have four children - Narend, Calil, Kavita and Allan. The funeral will take place at 10 am. Officiating will be Rev Daniel Teelucksingh and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church Rev Joy Abdul-Mohan.
