The Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force and The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service are working together to search for a Galil assault rifle which went missing this morning from the Tetron Barracks.
In a press conference today, led by Chief of Defense Staff Daryl Daniel, Lieutenant Colonel Singh and DCP Curt Simon of the TTPS, reported that around 12:30 this morning, an officer at Tetron Barracks reported to his superiors his unloaded Galil assault rifle was missing.
Officials say Tetron Barracks are currently confined at this time in keeping with standard operating procedure. The TTPS was alerted and a preliminary investigation has begun.
A search was conducted of the vicinity but it wasn’t found. Officials say the TTDF, “Sees this as a very serious incident.”
When asked how many weapons had gone missing, Daniel said, “This is the first case and God’s willing the last for the year.”
DCP Curt Simon said the police service will leave no stone unturned looking for the weapon.
Simon said there is no report of missing ammunition
He called on the public to give any information they may have.
