Guardian Media Limited (GML) copped four Telecommunications and Broadcasting Industry (TBI) awards during the second edition of the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago’s (TATT) awards held on Saturday evening at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain.
GML won the Innovative Broadcaster Award; the Innovative Service Offering Award - Free to Air; the Technological Disruptor Award - Free to Air and the Radio For Our People Award.
GML’s Managing Editor Kaymar Jordan, Head of Commercial Content and Marketing Tova Satnarine-White and Radio Manager Jon Birch represented the company at the event.
Jordan said, “These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the GML team to raising the standard of broadcasting nationally and ensuring that we honour our core values and focus on being positive stewards of our beloved industry.
“Indeed, any success we achieve is also due in large measure to the support we enjoy from our valued customers and clients, without whom we are nothing. Of course, the reward for hard work is more hard work, and we are here for the long haul.”
Among the other awardees was Digicel T&T in the categories of Innovative Service Offering – Providers and the Accessibility Award. Gayelle also won for Innovative Service Offering – TV Broadcasters over Cable and the Technological Disruptor Award- TV Broadcasters over Cable.
Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) won the Techonological Disruptor Award – Providers; the Social Contribution Award; the Sustainability Award and the Connect the Unconnected Award. State owned TTT won the Local Content Award.
Speaking at the event TATT’s deputy chairman Dr Kim Mallalieu said the awards have grown significantly since the first instalment five years ago.
“The inaugural awards in 2019 set a high benchmark for recognising outstanding achievements in the industry. That year we received 28 entries. This year we received 52 submissions, signalling a vibrant buzz and growing enthusiasm for these awards. The TBI celebrates excellence across nine distinct categories,” Mallalieu highlighted.
She noted that while competition drives everyone to greatness, it is a collaboration that truly elevates everyone.
“I look forward to the next 20 years of innovation, excellence, and exclusivity, as we together shape the future of telecommunications and broadcasting in Trinidad,” Mallalieu added.
About the awards
In 2019, TATT launched its inaugural TBI Awards to recognise and reward innovation, high standards, and excellence in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors of T&T.
These awards aim to recognise, appreciate and highlight the contributions and achievements of industry stakeholders.
This year there were nine award categories.
