A tar­get­ed po­lice op­er­a­tion in To­ba­go on Thurs­day re­sult­ed in the seizure of an il­le­gal firearm, am­mu­ni­tion, nar­cotics and cash, with two peo­ple ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed the in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise at a prop­er­ty along Gold­en Grove Road, Canaan, as part of Op­er­a­tion Res­olute Shield.

Po­lice said the team, led by PC Yorke, searched an apart­ment where they dis­cov­ered a Glock 22 Aus­tria .40 cal­i­bre pis­tol bear­ing the se­r­i­al num­ber 301076FC and marked “Ful­ton Coun­ty, GA Po­lice.”

Of­fi­cers al­so seized a 9mm pis­tol mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion be­lieved to be 9mm rounds, a .40 cal­i­bre mag­a­zine loaded with five rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion and an ad­di­tion­al 15 rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion.

The search al­so un­cov­ered a quan­ti­ty of sus­pect­ed nar­cotics. Po­lice re­port­ed find­ing five pack­ages of com­pressed cannabis weigh­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 2.612 kilo­grammes, two pack­ets of cannabis weigh­ing about 45 grammes and two pack­ages con­tain­ing an es­ti­mat­ed 38 grammes of co­caine.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors al­so re­cov­ered an elec­tron­ic scale, two Trinidad and To­ba­go pass­ports and a Na­tion­al Iden­ti­fi­ca­tion Card.

A quan­ti­ty of cash was seized dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, in­clud­ing TT$1,867 and US$700.

Po­lice ar­rest­ed a 30-year-old geri­atric nurse of Gold­en Grove Road, Canaan, and a 29-year-old man of the same ad­dress. They re­main in po­lice cus­tody as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.

The op­er­a­tion was strate­gi­cal­ly di­rect­ed by As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Singh and Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Kirk. It was co­or­di­nat­ed by As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Bac­chus, In­spec­tor Mo­hammed and War­rant Of­fi­cer Act­ing Sergeant Gor­don-Har­ris.

The ex­er­cise was su­per­vised by Sergeant Her­nan­dez and War­rant Of­fi­cer Cor­po­ral Al­fred and car­ried out by of­fi­cers of the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion­al Task Force and the Gang In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit.

Po­lice said the op­er­a­tion formed part of on­go­ing ef­forts to tar­get il­le­gal firearms, nar­cotics traf­fick­ing and oth­er se­ri­ous crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty across To­ba­go. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
