A dri­ver who stopped to as­sist vic­tims of a fa­tal ac­ci­dent on the Beetham High­way on Tues­day night was beat­en and robbed by a group of men.

Po­lice said the man pulled to the side of the east­bound lane at 10 pm af­ter notic­ing the crash and be­gan help­ing to pull one of the dri­vers from the wreck­age. He re­port­ed that some­one grabbed him from be­hind, and sev­er­al men be­gan beat­ing him be­fore steal­ing $10,000, his iden­ti­fi­ca­tion card and bank card. The as­sailants then ran away.

Short­ly af­ter, on­look­ers gath­ered as res­i­dents pulled 19-year-old Kav­ish Per­sad of Aranguez from his sub­merged white Hyundai Ion­ic, which had land­ed in the Laven­tille Riv­er af­ter col­lid­ing with an­oth­er ve­hi­cle. Per­sad was un­re­spon­sive and de­clared dead at the scene.
