Surveillance operations led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man for possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Police said on January 11, after receiving information about illicit activities, officers took up strategic positions along Rampersad Trace, Sangre Grande where they observed a man attempting to conceal items in some bushes on the southern side of the roadway.
The officers approached, searched the man and allegedly found in a knapsack, seven wrapped plastic packages each containing marijuana, with a total weight of seven kilogrammes.
A further search resulted in the seizure of one metal box containing an extended magazine loaded with 29 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and one camouflage jacket.
The 33-year-old man of Rampersad Trace was immediately arrested.
The operation was conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Eastern Division Task Force and the
Special Operations Unit.
