Officers of the Eastern Division have promised an increased police presence, including targeted searches, in the aftermath of three separate murders on the same street in Valencia, days apart from each other.
In the most recent incident on Sunday night, police said Keshawn Guy, 39, also known as Abdul Aleem was about to enter his Emon Lane home at around 8.40 pm when he was confronted by a gunman who shot at him.
Guy reportedly ran, but was chased by his attacker who shot him several times, before fleeing into a nearby forested area, escaping.
Police were called in with a district medical officer who declared him dead.
Several spent shells were found at the scene.
On April 21, Dexter Ferreira was gunned down near his home, also on Emon Lane.
One day earlier on April 20, 49-year-old Shaun Charles was shot and killed while in his Emon Lane home.
Responding to Guardian Media’s questions through the TTPS Corporate Communications Unit yesterday, head of the Eastern Division Snr Supt Christopher Paponette acknowledged that while the recent murders would stir concern among residents, police intended to respond through targeted exercises to improve security while disrupting criminal networks.
Paponette in his response said the recent killings were due to criminal conflicts.
“Preliminary investigations and intelligence assessments indicate that these incidents are targeted and stem from identifiable conflicts and criminal dynamics involving persons of interest.
“There is no current intelligence to suggest that members of the general public are being indiscriminately targeted.
“The TTPS confirms that investigators are pursuing identified persons of interest in connection with these matters.”
In addition to the ongoing murder enquiries, Paponette also reported that the Eastern Division intended to begin targeted raid and search operations, sustained high-visibility patrols around Emon Lane and other areas with intelligence-led targeting of priority offenders.
He said the police were also in the process of addressing risks of “retaliatory violence,” with measures being introduced to protect “vulnerable individuals.”
