Of­fi­cers of the East­ern Di­vi­sion have promised an in­creased po­lice pres­ence, in­clud­ing tar­get­ed search­es, in the af­ter­math of three sep­a­rate mur­ders on the same street in Va­len­cia, days apart from each oth­er.

In the most re­cent in­ci­dent on Sun­day night, po­lice said Ke­shawn Guy, 39, al­so known as Ab­dul Aleem was about to en­ter his Emon Lane home at around 8.40 pm when he was con­front­ed by a gun­man who shot at him.

Guy re­port­ed­ly ran, but was chased by his at­tack­er who shot him sev­er­al times, be­fore flee­ing in­to a near­by forest­ed area, es­cap­ing.

Po­lice were called in with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer who de­clared him dead.

Sev­er­al spent shells were found at the scene.

On April 21, Dex­ter Fer­reira was gunned down near his home, al­so on Emon Lane.

One day ear­li­er on April 20, 49-year-old Shaun Charles was shot and killed while in his Emon Lane home.

Re­spond­ing to Guardian Me­dia’s ques­tions through the TTPS Cor­po­rate Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Unit yes­ter­day, head of the East­ern Di­vi­sion Snr Supt Christo­pher Pa­ponette ac­knowl­edged that while the re­cent mur­ders would stir con­cern among res­i­dents, po­lice in­tend­ed to re­spond through tar­get­ed ex­er­cis­es to im­prove se­cu­ri­ty while dis­rupt­ing crim­i­nal net­works.

Pa­ponette in his re­sponse said the re­cent killings were due to crim­i­nal con­flicts.

“Pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tions and in­tel­li­gence as­sess­ments in­di­cate that these in­ci­dents are tar­get­ed and stem from iden­ti­fi­able con­flicts and crim­i­nal dy­nam­ics in­volv­ing per­sons of in­ter­est.

“There is no cur­rent in­tel­li­gence to sug­gest that mem­bers of the gen­er­al pub­lic are be­ing in­dis­crim­i­nate­ly tar­get­ed.

“The TTPS con­firms that in­ves­ti­ga­tors are pur­su­ing iden­ti­fied per­sons of in­ter­est in con­nec­tion with these mat­ters.”

In ad­di­tion to the on­go­ing mur­der en­quiries, Pa­ponette al­so re­port­ed that the East­ern Di­vi­sion in­tend­ed to be­gin tar­get­ed raid and search op­er­a­tions, sus­tained high-vis­i­bil­i­ty pa­trols around Emon Lane and oth­er ar­eas with in­tel­li­gence-led tar­get­ing of pri­or­i­ty of­fend­ers.

He said the po­lice were al­so in the process of ad­dress­ing risks of “re­tal­ia­to­ry vi­o­lence,” with mea­sures be­ing in­tro­duced to pro­tect “vul­ner­a­ble in­di­vid­u­als.”

*In June 2024, Sher­win Taitt was stabbed to death at a house in Emon Lane. Po­lice sus­pect a do­mes­tic dis­pute was the cause of the at­tack.

*Ke­ston Lam­orelle was gunned down at his home on Feb­ru­ary 25, 2024.

*On Au­gust 4, 2023, an eight-year-old boy was shot and wound­ed dur­ing an at­tack at Emon Lane.

*A 40-year-old man was shot and wound­ed out­side his Emon Lane home on Sep­tem­ber 14, 2023.

*Carl­ton “Pi­la­to” Sook­nanan, 28, was shot and killed at his home on Au­gust 14, 2022.
