Jaffet Williams, 27, of Junon Street East, California, was gunned down on Monday around 2 pm while standing near an empty lot at the corner of Teelucksingh Street East and Yallery Street, California in central Trinidad.
Michelle Williams-King, the mother of the deceased, claimed her son was into illegal activities but was not a thief.
Williams-King said Jaffet received a call informing him that he was marked for execution. Williams-King said she believed that he was killed over a woman.
Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said the killing was very worrying.
Indarsingh said, “It worries me because I heard the victim was executed with an AK-47 assault rifle. Only a week ago there was murder at Junon Street which tells me that high powered guns and ammunition are rampant in the Dow Village/ California area.”
He added: “The acting Commissioner of Police needs to put resources into these communities to get rid of the criminals and weapons. We have been calling for joint army-police patrols for the last seven years and for the area to be declared a hot-spot. Criminals are migrating into Couva South and taking up residence in California, Lisas Gardens, Couva North Gardens, Rosytonia and Dow Village.”
