Winston “Gypsy” Peters has officially resigned as Chairman of the National Carnival Commission (NCC).

His resignation follows changes at the Ministry of Culture and Community Development, including the appointment of Michelle Benjamin as Minister. Since then, board members from several cultural institutions like NAPA, SAPA, Naparima Bowl, and Queen’s Hall, have also vacated their posts.

Peters, a former Culture Minister and veteran Calypsonian, had previously said he would serve until the end of his term in November 2025 and had not received any request to resign. Last week, he said he intended to continue in the role.

However, Peters has now confirmed his decision to step down.

“I have no acrimony with the current administration,” he said, affirming his continued commitment to national service.

The Ministry of Culture and Community Development has not yet issued a statement on the resignation.
