The Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice (TTMS) has is­sued a Haz­ardous Seas Alert for North­ern ex­posed coast­lines, for over the next few days.

This Alert comes as a re­sponse to an­tic­i­pat­ed long-pe­ri­od, north-north­east­er­ly swells which are ex­pect­ed to cre­ate dan­ger­ous con­di­tions for sea bathers and small craft op­er­a­tors.

The Alert spans 11:00 pm Feb­ru­ary 9, 2026, to 9:00 am Feb­ru­ary 12.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTMS, these swells can lead to high-en­er­gy surf and oc­ca­sion­al bat­ter­ing waves along af­fect­ed shore­lines.

Near-shore ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing fish­ing, swim­ming and boat moor­ings can be dis­rupt­ed. Im­pacts may al­so in­clude in­tru­sion of salt wa­ter and dis­place­ment of sand, fur­ther than the av­er­age reach point.

Fish­er­folk and boat cap­tains are ad­vised to se­cure their ves­sels and ex­er­cise ex­tra cau­tion when nav­i­gat­ing coastal wa­ters.

Sea bathers are al­so en­cour­aged to com­ply with any in­struc­tions from life­guards on du­ty.
