The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert for Northern exposed coastlines, for over the next few days.
This Alert comes as a response to anticipated long-period, north-northeasterly swells which are expected to create dangerous conditions for sea bathers and small craft operators.
The Alert spans 11:00 pm February 9, 2026, to 9:00 am February 12.
According to the TTMS, these swells can lead to high-energy surf and occasional battering waves along affected shorelines.
Near-shore activities including fishing, swimming and boat moorings can be disrupted. Impacts may also include intrusion of salt water and displacement of sand, further than the average reach point.
Fisherfolk and boat captains are advised to secure their vessels and exercise extra caution when navigating coastal waters.
Sea bathers are also encouraged to comply with any instructions from lifeguards on duty.
