The Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will soon address landslide issues affecting the Riverside South Corinth Development.
In response to residents’ complaints, the HDC said the landslides occurred after heavy rainfall.
In a press release, the corporation confirmed that residents lodged complaints about the problem on September 17.
“The matter was immediately reported by the HDC to its subsidiary, the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation Facilities Estate Management Company Limited (FEMCoL), which worked in collaboration with the Riverside South Management Company to address such incidents.”
According to the HDC, engineers from FEMCoL, accompanied by residents, conducted an on-site inspection on September 18 to assess the damage and explore possible solutions.
The corporation added that the technical team has since finalised its assessment report, documenting recommended engineering solutions, which were submitted on September 22 for “actioning.”
HDC assured residents, “The Corporation remains committed to ensuring the safety and stability of the affected areas and to working closely with the Riverside South Management Company and its residents.”
The corporation also promised to keep the public updated as the works progress toward implementation.
Residents expressed frustration over infrastructural and sewer problems since moving into the development between 2022 and 2023.
They said the HDC failed to construct a retaining wall along the riverbank, which led to erosion at the back of several homes. One family was relocated after their townhouse began slipping into the river, while another recently moved out after a landslide destroyed a section of roadway in front of their home.
Residents also complained about the poor condition of the roads and recurring sewer problems.
