The government is stepping up its efforts and exploring vaccination options amid growing global concerns over monkeypox infections.
Responding to questions in parliament on Monday, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said meetings have been convened to discuss how to identify and treat the disease.
According to him, included among the mitigation measures implemented so far was the placing of port health on high alert for screening and the alerting of RHA physicians to diagnose and treat with monkeypox.
He added that further strategies were also being considered.
"We are proactively reaching out to our local and proactive partners to acquire the vaccination jynommos, the vaccination strategy at this point in time, if we get the vaccines, is not a national vaccination drive like covid."
Minster Deyalsingh said he was hopeful that testing for the disease would be ramped up here at home and across the regions through the Caribbean Public Health Agency.
