The Min­istry of Health is warn­ing cit­i­zens to be care­ful of in­ad­ver­tent­ly con­sum­ing “fake news”, pur­port­ed­ly be­ing re­lease un­der the guise of its of­fi­cial let­ter­head.

In an of­fi­cial state­ment re­leased to­day, the health min­istry states cat­e­gor­i­cal­ly that it had noth­ing to do with so­cial me­dia posts re­fer­ring to Ian Al­leyne and his health sta­tus.

The min­istry is urg­ing the pub­lic to get its in­for­ma­tion on the cur­rent COVID-19 out­break on­ly from au­tho­rised sources name­ly the health min­istry and the com­mu­ni­ca­tions min­istry.

NO UNAU­THO­RISED USE OF­FI­CIAL MIN­ISTRY OF HEALTH LET­TER­HEAD

Port-of-Spain, March 25, 2020:  The Min­istry of Health ad­vis­es the pop­u­la­tion that the al­leged fake news post re­fer­ring to videos of Ian Al­leyne was not is­sued by the Min­istry of Health.

Mem­bers of the pub­lic are not au­tho­rized to use the of­fi­cial let­ter­head of the Min­istry of Health, in any form, and should re­frain from do­ing so.

The Min­istry will con­tin­ue to pro­vide ac­cu­rate in­for­ma­tion to the pub­lic in a time­ly fash­ion. The pub­lic is there­fore urged to dis­re­gard and avoid shar­ing all un­con­firmed, mis­lead­ing and/or false in­for­ma­tion about COVID-19.
