The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued another Yellow Level Alert warning of an increased likelihood of adverse weather conditions over the next 24 hours. A high (80%) chance of intermittent rainfall of varying intensities and isolated thunderstorms is forecast over Trinidad, particularly affecting southern and central areas.

These regions have already experienced saturation due to recent rainfall.

Tobago is expected to see a medium (60%) chance of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms. However, the presence of higher concentrations of Saharan dust is expected to limit widespread rainfall activity on the island.

Both islands will continue to experience significant levels of Saharan dust, which may reduce visibility and air quality at times. The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is gradually shifting northward and is projected to intensify the current unsettled weather, contributing to increased rainfall and thunderstorm activity overnight into tomorrow.

Authorities are warning of a heightened risk of landslides and landslips in vulnerable areas. Additional potential impacts include street or flash flooding, localized ponding, and gusty winds near heavy downpours, which may also lead to rough sea conditions.

Residents are advised to remain alert and exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to flooding or landslides.

The public is urged to assess weather conditions before travelling, avoid flood waters, and take necessary precautions to reduce potential risks.

Officials are encouraging all citizens to follow official instructions and monitor ongoing weather updates via the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service at www.metoffice.gov.tt
