The murder of special prosecutor Randall Hector on December 31, 2024, continues to engage the police.
Investigators have been diligently following the guidance of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard as they work towards solving this shocking murder.
During a media briefing at the Police Administration Building in Port-of-Spain yesterday, acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin said, “We have reached the stage where the file went to the DPP, and we were given certain advice, so we are now following up on that advice and then probably to get back to the DPP as soon as possible.”
However, he said “these things take a while.”
Benjamin assured investigators would be “very thorough and at least conform to the standard that is required in terms of the rule of law.”
Hector, a 43-year-old father of two was shot multiple times around 7.30 pm as he left the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Stanmore Avenue, Queen’s Park West.
Hector and his wife, along with their two small children, had been walking to their car parked at Albion Street when a black SUV and a Nissan B15 pulled alongside Hector’s car, and the occupants opened fire on him, hitting him in the chest.
He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he died at 7.51 pm.
Prior to setting up his own firm, RW Hector & Associates, Hector was employed at the elite Strategic Services Agency (SSA) as its legal director.
