Heightened security at Piarco Airport following murder

Se­cu­ri­ty has been in­creased at Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port fol­low­ing a fa­tal shoot­ing ear­ly Thurs­day morn­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, a man was shot and killed in a pub­lic area of the air­port. 

Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, se­nior of­fi­cers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) met with of­fi­cials from the Air­ports Au­thor­i­ty of Trinidad and To­ba­go to co­or­di­nate the im­ple­men­ta­tion of en­hanced se­cu­ri­ty mea­sures.

Some of these mea­sures have tak­en im­me­di­ate ef­fect, while oth­ers are ex­pect­ed to be in­tro­duced in the com­ing days. 

Agen­cies with­in the na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty frame­work have al­so com­mit­ted ad­di­tion­al re­sources to sup­port on­go­ing ef­forts.

In a state­ment, the Au­thor­i­ty said it con­tin­ues to work with the TTPS and oth­er agen­cies to main­tain a safe and se­cure en­vi­ron­ment for all air­port users and stake­hold­ers.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent are on­go­ing. The de­ceased man has been iden­ti­fied as Arkim Quashie.
