Security has been increased at Piarco International Airport following a fatal shooting early Thursday morning.
According to police, a man was shot and killed in a public area of the airport.
Following the incident, senior officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) met with officials from the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago to coordinate the implementation of enhanced security measures.
Some of these measures have taken immediate effect, while others are expected to be introduced in the coming days.
Agencies within the national security framework have also committed additional resources to support ongoing efforts.
In a statement, the Authority said it continues to work with the TTPS and other agencies to maintain a safe and secure environment for all airport users and stakeholders.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. The deceased man has been identified as Arkim Quashie.
