A homeless man known only as Killy Killy or Buju, who was usually seen in Chaguanas with stray dogs he adopted, was knocked down and killed on Monday night in a hit-and-run accident.
Police said they received an anonymous call about the incident around 11.30 pm that a man was seen lying in a ditch along the south-bound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, in the vicinity of Bhagwansingh’s Hardware.
Upon checking, officers found the man dead.
A dog was found standing near his body.
Members of the public who knew the man, took to social media to offer condolences regarding the unfortunate accident.
Kim Liam wrote, “He was always loving to his dogs and the dogs were always loyal to him.”
Desheng Merlin said, “Just Sunday early morning he filled up his water and was by the road pulling his dog. It really sad he died like this.”
Cathy-Ann Noel-Nicholas claimed to have seen the victim around 8 pm at Lange Park, Chaguanas, with the trolley and the dog.
Afterlife Ally commiserated, “He may be a street dweller but he is a super nice guy. He may be a street dweller for many but for those who see differently he’s a kind-hearted person. Persons like him will definitely see God’s face. I pray that his dogs really get good homes where they will be loved.”
Mike Rajukumar said, “Trinidad needs tougher driving laws some drivers are pure menace to driving and should not have a licence.”
Kal El agreed, “For a man, to take care of dogs and carry them around, shows how great and loving his heart was. And this deserves full attention from the authorities. Also, he deserves a proper funeral. Justice must be served. That driver deserves lethal force from the judicial system. This angers me a lot.”
Police are investigating the incident.
