Hundreds of motorists were affected yesterday by the closure of several Unipets service stations across the country yesterday.

The temporary closure as Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited has discontinued supplying fuel to Unipet.

Paria said its decision to cut Unipet’s fuel supply was a consequence of Unipet failing to renegotiate a supply.

It also said Unipet has defaulted on payments owed for September and October 2019 deliveries.

Paria has had challenges receiving payment from Unipet in accordance with the agreed payment schedule; this failure to pay monies when due has the potential to affect Paria’s ability to procure fuel from its suppliers.

In Chaguanas, Guardian visited the Unipet Brentwood Service Station, the staff told us they are using the fuel impasse to do operations upgrade.

The only gas was available to the motorist was Compressed Natural Gas and diesel.

As the many cars were being turned away, many seemed confused and upset over the impasse.

One motorist told the Guardian Media that he was upset over what is happening and it’s a great inconvenience to him.

At the Montrose Service Station the chains were pulled and no cars able to enter.

Another motorist says he was on his way to the hospital and needed gas and now he has to go even further and he is ill.

These were the concerns of many motorists attempting to get fuel.

At Medford Service Station it was the similar situation no access to the pumps and these reports were similar throughout the country.

Unipet in a media release told its customers that the current supply impasse with the Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited was unfortunate.

The company said it reaffirmed its “commitment to finding a speedy resolution. We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience that this impasse may cause to our customers and the general public.”

Numerous calls to Unipet’s CEO Dexter Riley went direct to voicemail.
