Hundreds of Public Servants protest against 2% wage offer

The streets of Port-of-Spain are full of hun­dreds of pub­lic sec­tor work­ers march­ing through Port-of-Spain in protest of the gov­ern­ment's of­fer of a 2% salary in­crease over an eight-year pe­ri­od. The Joint Trade Union Move­ment and mem­bers of oth­er union bod­ies gath­ered at 10 a.m. at Memo­r­i­al Park.

As they wait­ed, pub­lic sec­tor work­ers from var­i­ous groups be­gan chant­i­ng to ready them­selves for the march.

There were shouts of "Row­ley and Im­bert out", "Get down from there Row­ley" and "2% noth­ing!"

Af­ter a brief con­ver­sa­tion be­tween union lead­ers Michael An­nisette and An­cel Ro­get, and se­nior Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Of­fi­cers, the march be­gan. Their first stop is the Chief Per­son­nel's Of­fice and it's ex­pect­ed they will pro­ceed to the Min­istry of Fi­nance Af­ter.

The unions for­mal­ly re­ject­ed CPO Daryl Din­di­al's of­fer of 2% yes­ter­day.
