Hyatt Regency Trinidad has donated part of the proceeds from its annual LIME Carnival event to United Way Trinidad and Tobago and Kids in Need of Direction, continuing the hotel’s community outreach efforts.
The cheques were presented to United Way chief executive officer Gail Sooknarine and KIND founder and chairperson Karina Jardine-Scott at the hotel following another staging of the Carnival event.
United Way Trinidad and Tobago supports vulnerable communities through a range of social programmes, including early childhood literacy initiatives.
“We are deeply grateful to Hyatt Regency Trinidad for their generous contribution. The funds will be used toward our early literacy programme of children learning to read at age eight, hence laying the foundation for childhood success,” Sooknarine said.
General manager of Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Michael Hooper, said the hotel remained committed to supporting community organisations.
“In keeping with our commitment to support our communities in need, we are pleased to be a partner with United Way Trinidad and Tobago, and we thank them for their continued dedication to supporting the needs of various organisations,” Hooper said.
“We are equally as delighted to work with KIND and be a part of their journey in impacting positive change.”
KIND, which has operated for more than two decades, focuses on supporting and empowering vulnerable children and families.
Jardine-Scott said contributions from corporate partners remain critical for non-profit organisations navigating rising operational costs.
“For a nonprofit organisation, these contributions are lifelines, as it’s arduous to get money to pay salaries or to maintain, upgrade, and renovate our old building,” she said.
She added that Hyatt’s support would help the organisation continue its mission of “Empowering children, Transforming lives, one family at a time.”
The hotel said the initiative forms part of Hyatt’s global World of Care programme, which focuses on community support, environmental sustainability, and responsible business practices.
Hyatt Regency Trinidad also announced plans to participate in Hyatt Corporation’s Global Month of Service initiative in September, during which employees across Hyatt hotels worldwide volunteer in community-based projects.
