San Fernando Mayor Robert Louis Parris is facing potential legal action from local broadcaster Ian Alleyne over a controversial Facebook post.
A pre-action protocol letter, dated yesterday, January 6, 2026, alleged that Mayor Parris made a defamatory Facebook post targeting Alleyne following his coverage of a fire at the Radica Trading Building on Cipero Street, San Fernando, on December 11, 2025.
Alleyne is the host of the television and online show, Crime Watch, and owner of the Ian Alleyne Network Limited.
According to the letter, Parris’ post included an image of Alleyne along with what was deemed as a ‘derogatory expression’ and malicious remarks. The letter alleged that screenshots of the post were widely shared on social media, which was labelled as defamatory.
The letter sent to Parris demanded a public apology, a cessation of further defamatory remarks, and compensation for Alleyne. It said that failure to comply by January 9, could see the matter taken to the High Court.
The lawyer representing Ian Alleyne is Devi Ramnarine of Magnus Chambers, acting on instructions from Saira Lakhan.
