Pub­lic Util­i­ties Min­is­ter Bar­ry Padarath has an­nounced that vet­er­an en­gi­neer and ex­ec­u­tive Ian Ram­rat­tan will be the new gen­er­al man­ag­er of the T&T Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC). Ram­rat­tan is ex­pect­ed to as­sume the role be­fore the end of the year.

Padarath made the an­nounce­ment dur­ing a me­dia brief­ing in the diplo­mat­ic lounge at Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port to­day, as he over­saw the de­par­ture of 25 T&TEC work­ers to Ja­maica to as­sist in re­cov­ery ef­forts there fol­low­ing Hur­ri­cane Melis­sa.

He said Ram­rat­tan is ex­pect­ed to take of­fice by De­cem­ber 1.

Ac­cord­ing to T&TEC’s newslet­ter, Ram­rat­tan was ap­point­ed as­sis­tant gen­er­al man­ag­er on June 1 and holds a BSc in Elec­tri­cal and Com­put­er En­gi­neer­ing and a Mas­ter’s in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion.

He joined T&TEC in 1990, work­ing as a shift con­trol en­gi­neer, se­nior con­trol en­gi­neer, and in the com­pa­ny’s pub­lic light­ing de­part­ment.

Ram­rat­tan will re­place act­ing gen­er­al man­ag­er Vi­jay Ram­nanans­ingh.
