A 22-year-old man is currently in police custody after officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) discovered a loaded firearm during anti-crime exercises conducted in the North Eastern and North Central Divisions on Monday, April 21, 2025.
According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers were conducting operations in the Barataria area when they stopped and searched a male suspect along Sawmill Avenue around 10:45 a.m.
The search led to the discovery of one Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition. The suspect, who is from the area, was arrested in connection with the find. The TTPS says investigations are ongoing.
In addition to the arrest, officers also conducted road check exercises along the Eastern Main Road and the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway. These exercises resulted in seven fixed penalty notices being issued for traffic violations including overcrowded vehicles, missing inspection stickers, and defective fittings.
