IATF arrests armed suspect in Barataria

A 22-year-old man is cur­rent­ly in po­lice cus­tody af­ter of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force (IATF) dis­cov­ered a loaded firearm dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in the North East­ern and North Cen­tral Di­vi­sions on Mon­day, April 21, 2025.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), of­fi­cers were con­duct­ing op­er­a­tions in the Barataria area when they stopped and searched a male sus­pect along Sawmill Av­enue around 10:45 a.m.

The search led to the dis­cov­ery of one Tau­rus pis­tol fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 17 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion. The sus­pect, who is from the area, was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find. The TTPS says in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.

In ad­di­tion to the ar­rest, of­fi­cers al­so con­duct­ed road check ex­er­cis­es along the East­ern Main Road and the north­bound lane of the Uri­ah But­ler High­way. These ex­er­cis­es re­sult­ed in sev­en fixed penal­ty no­tices be­ing is­sued for traf­fic vi­o­la­tions in­clud­ing over­crowd­ed ve­hi­cles, miss­ing in­spec­tion stick­ers, and de­fec­tive fit­tings.
