Escapee Jose Britto was arrested more than a month after he fled the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC).
Police said officers from the National Operations Task Force (NOTF) spotted Britto standing along the roadside on Moonan Road, Wallerfield around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The officers were conducting an exercise in the area when they recognised Britto as one of the people who escaped from the IDC on July 18.
Police said the officers stopped, identified themselves and cautioned Britto before arresting him.
He was taken to the Arima Police Station.
Britto was later charged with escaping lawful custody and two counts of assaulting a police officer.
His matter is scheduled to come before the court today.
