Outgoing Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh has reaffirmed his commitment to the United National Congress even as he has not been chosen to contest the seat in the 2025 General Election on April 28.
It was revealed by UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar that Barry Padarath has been selected as the prospective candidate for the constituency.
In a statement today, Indarsingh said today he thinks of his late parents, Bissoon and Tara Indarsingh.
" I think of how they relentlessly toiled despite their humble and scarce means to create a future for our family. Despite the unforeseen changes to their direction, they remain committed, steadfast, and firm in their commitment to ensuring better for my sisters and for me. Many of our parents have done so for us, and many of us who are now parents do so for our children. Their dedication, humility, steadfastness, and passion to create a brighter future inspire me today more than ever," he said.
Indarsingh said over the past twenty-four hours, he has been inundated with calls and messages of support, encouragement, guidance, and gratitude coming from countless people in Couva South, the wider country, and people abroad upon hearing that he has been replaced as our party’s candidate for Couva South.
" Like my parents, I understand that unexpected changes are part of life, and these changes challenge us to grow even more. I am grateful to the Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, and United National Congress for the opportunity to serve as Member of Parliament for Couva South. I have been a child of the United National Congress since its inception and the DNA of the UNC runs deep within my veins," he said.
Indarsingh said he is grateful to his constituents of Couva South, who have become his mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends.
" Our time together has been full of laughter, tears, struggle, and victories. For every invitation into your homes, every birthday, death, celebration, and trial that we have been through together, the space that you hold in my heart is larger than any office," he said.
He added that " even as we continue the struggle for a brighter future, I remain committed to the reality that only a UNC government can fix the ills which have befallen this country. The brightest years of this country were had under governments formed by the United National Congress."
The outgoing Couva South MP said the upcoming election is about ensuring that the future of the country is brighter than its dark present.
" When it comes to a party that can take this country into a bright, secure, prosperous new future, the United National Congress is the only party that can 'carry it.' Service is labour standing with the people, and I stand with you as UNC and proud."
