Dri­vers head­ing in­to Port-of-Spain on Mon­day for the In­de­pen­dence Day cel­e­bra­tions and CPL crick­et should plan ahead, with tem­po­rary park­ing and traf­fic re­stric­tions set to af­fect sev­er­al ma­jor roads.

The re­stric­tions, is­sued by the Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, will take ef­fect from 6 a.m. on Mon­day, Au­gust 31, and con­tin­ue un­til 1 a.m. on Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 1.

Sev­er­al roads will have park­ing re­stric­tions dur­ing the morn­ing, while oth­ers will have re­stric­tions on both park­ing and ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic.

Where park­ing is pro­hib­it­ed

From 6 a.m. to noon, park­ing will be pro­hib­it­ed on:

* Queen's Park West, be­tween Queen's Park East and Cipri­ani Boule­vard

* Chancery Lane, be­tween Gor­don Street and Queen's Park West

* Keate Street

* Fred­er­ick Street, be­tween Queen's Park West and Park Street

* Park Street, be­tween Fred­er­ick Street and St Vin­cent Street

* New Street

* Dere Street

* Al­bion Street

* Dun­don­ald Street

* Cir­cu­lar Road

* Rapsey Street

* Gor­don Street

* West­ern Main Road, be­tween Tra­garete Road and Long Cir­cu­lar Road

* Tra­garete Road

Park­ing will al­so be pro­hib­it­ed on Long Cir­cu­lar Road, be­tween West­ern Main Road and Pat­na Street, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From noon on Mon­day un­til 1 a.m. Tues­day, park­ing will be pro­hib­it­ed on:

* Queen's Park West, be­tween Chancery Lane and St Clair Av­enue

* Mar­aval Road, be­tween St Clair Av­enue and Sad­dle Road

* Cir­cu­lar Road, be­tween Sad­dle Road and St Ann's Road

* The east­ern end of Cir­cu­lar Road, be­tween the St Ann's Road round­about and Queen's Park East

* Queen's Park East

* Char­lotte Street, be­tween Queen's Park West and New Street

Roads closed to traf­fic

From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., dri­vers will not be al­lowed to park or pro­ceed on Queen's Park West, be­tween Queen's Park East and Chancery Lane; Keate Street; Fred­er­ick Street, be­tween Queen's Park West and Park Street; Al­bion Street, be­tween Chancery Lane and Vic­to­ria Av­enue; New Street; Pem­broke Street, be­tween Keate Street and Gor­don Street; and Chancery Lane, be­tween Gor­don Street and Queen's Park West.

Park Street, be­tween Hen­ry Street and Ed­ward Street, will be closed to park­ing and traf­fic from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

From 7 a.m. to noon, the re­stric­tions will al­so ap­ply to Tra­garete Road and West­ern Main Road, be­tween Dami­an Street and Luc­know Street.

CPL adds more re­stric­tions

Ad­di­tion­al re­stric­tions will be in place around the Queen's Park Oval for the Caribbean Pre­mier League T20.

On Mon­day, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., park­ing will be pro­hib­it­ed on Tra­garete Road, be­tween Broome Street and Gray Street; St Clair Av­enue, be­tween Broome Street and Gray Street; and Sweet Bri­ar Road, be­tween Alexan­dra Street and Gray Street.

Dri­vers will al­so be pro­hib­it­ed from park­ing or dri­ving on Eliz­a­beth Street, be­tween St Clair Av­enue and Tra­garete Road; Sweet Bri­ar Road, be­tween Eliz­a­beth Street and Alexan­dra Street; and Have­lock Street, be­tween Tra­garete Road and St Clair Av­enue.

These CPL re­stric­tions al­so ap­ply dur­ing spec­i­fied pe­ri­ods on oth­er match days, in­clud­ing Fri­day, Au­gust 28; Sat­ur­day, Au­gust 29; and Wednes­day, Sep­tem­ber 2.

Evening traf­fic changes

From 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Mon­day, traf­fic on La­dy Young Road, be­tween the Hilton Ho­tel en­trance and the La­dy Young Road look­out, will trav­el east­bound on­ly.

Colville Street will op­er­ate south­bound on­ly dur­ing the same pe­ri­od.

Rapsey Street, be­tween Sad­dle Road and Wain­wright Street, will al­low traf­fic in both di­rec­tions from 6 a.m. to noon.

Don't park and risk a tow

Po­lice have warned that ve­hi­cles parked in breach of the re­stric­tions can be re­moved and im­pound­ed.

With In­de­pen­dence cel­e­bra­tions and CPL tak­ing place on the same day, dri­vers head­ing in­to Port-of-Spain are be­ing ad­vised to pay close at­ten­tion to the tem­po­rary re­stric­tions and plan their routes ac­cord­ing­ly.
