For­mer First Cit­i­zens Group CEO Ja­son Julien has joined Lib­er­ty Caribbean as Vice Pres­i­dent and Coun­try Man­ag­er for Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Lib­er­ty Caribbean, which op­er­ates Flow, Lib­er­ty Busi­ness and BTC, an­nounced the ap­point­ment as part of a re­gion­al ex­ec­u­tive reshuf­fle that al­so sees Si­mone Mar­tin-Šul­gan move to Bar­ba­dos as Vice Pres­i­dent and Coun­try Man­ag­er.

Julien will have re­spon­si­bil­i­ty for the com­mer­cial and fi­nan­cial per­for­mance of Lib­er­ty Caribbean’s Trinidad and To­ba­go op­er­a­tions, the com­pa­ny’s sec­ond-largest mar­ket. He will lead the team as the busi­ness moves in­to its next phase of growth.

Lib­er­ty Caribbean CEO Inge Smidts wel­comed Julien, point­ing to his ex­pe­ri­ence lead­ing a large, high­ly reg­u­lat­ed, cus­tomer-fo­cused or­gan­i­sa­tion.

Julien joined Lib­er­ty Caribbean af­ter serv­ing as Group CEO of First Cit­i­zens Group Fi­nan­cial Hold­ings. He left First Cit­i­zens on Au­gust 31, af­ter nine months and nine days in the role.

Julien pre­vi­ous­ly told Guardian Me­dia that he “def­i­nite­ly was not forced out” of First Cit­i­zens and that he chose to re­sign af­ter be­ing pre­sent­ed with an op­por­tu­ni­ty to work with a US com­pa­ny.

Mar­tin-Šul­gan, who led Lib­er­ty Caribbean’s com­mer­cial op­er­a­tions in Trinidad and To­ba­go for five years, will take over the com­pa­ny’s Bar­ba­dos op­er­a­tions from Desron By­noe. She will al­so be­come Head of Brand, Me­dia and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions at the re­gion­al lev­el.

In that ex­pand­ed role, Mar­tin-Šul­gan will over­see Bar­ba­dos’ com­mer­cial and fi­nan­cial per­for­mance while lead­ing ef­forts to strength­en Lib­er­ty Caribbean’s brands, mar­ket­ing and en­gage­ment with cus­tomers, em­ploy­ees and stake­hold­ers.

By­noe is mov­ing in­to an­oth­er com­mer­cial lead­er­ship role with­in the com­pa­ny, with re­spon­si­bil­i­ty for bring­ing his ex­per­tise to oth­er mar­kets.

Smidts de­scribed the ap­point­ments as part of Lib­er­ty Caribbean’s fo­cus on de­vel­op­ing Caribbean tal­ent and lead­er­ship across its mar­kets.

He al­so out­lined the com­pa­ny’s fo­cus on hav­ing Caribbean tal­ent dri­ve its dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion and move be­tween mar­kets with­in the re­gion.
