Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has condemned the attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, expressing relief that Donald Trump, the First Lady, and others in attendance were not harmed.
In a social media post, Persad-Bissessar said she was relieved that all officials and guests were safe following the incident.
She also commended the United States Secret Service for what she described as swift action in apprehending the shooter and extended best wishes to the injured officer.
Persad-Bissessar said she strongly condemns all acts of violence against democratic institutions and added that her thoughts are with those affected and traumatised by the incident.
She added that she is concerned the attack represents another attempt targeting President Trump and said she is praying for his continued safety and for the people of the United States.
