A man purporting to be a kidnap victim and his suspected captor remained in police custody up to yesterday afternoon, as they were questioned by police in the murder of a St Joseph murder last week.
Police said one of the men claimed that he was kidnapped from La Horquetta after a card game on Saturday night.
He claimed he was taken to a forested area on Bertie Road, Five Rivers, Arouca, but was able to escape with a Smith and Wesson pistol belonging to his captor when the suspect fell asleep.
The victim arrived at the Arouca Police Station and reported what happened.
Officers of the North-Central Division Task Force followed the man’s directions and arrested the kidnapper.
Police confirmed both the victim and the suspected kidnapper were taken into custody and were questioned in the murder of 44-year-old Tricia Maharaj.
Maharaj, a businesswoman, reportedly received a call from a stranger she expected to buy a vehicle from and went outside her Mungia Trace, Riverside Road home to meet him.
It was reported that Maharaj approached the stranger, who was in a gold Tiida Sedan, as a gunman got out of the backseat of the car and shot her several times, before getting back in the vehicle, which sped off.
Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau are continuing enquiries into Maharaj’s murder.
