A 39-year-old La Brea shop owner is in a serious condition after being stabbed several times by his friend.
He told police that around 8.30 pm on Wednesday he was at his home, Chin Fung Alley, Sobo Village, where he also runs a shop, when he and his friend had an altercation.
During the violent confrontation, his friend stabbed him with a knife and an ice pick repeatedly in his chest and abdomen. The victim was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Point Fortin Hospital last night. One of the wounds to the left side of his abdomen was 3 cm deep. La Brea police are investigating.
Businesswoman robbed outside restaurant
A 41-year-old businesswoman was robbed at gunpoint outside her restaurant in Cunupia on Wednesday night. Police reports indicate that around 8:30 pm on April 23, the owner of Zareen’s Indian and Asian Food Restaurant, was seated in her parked vehicle outside the establishment when she was approached by a lone gunman. The masked suspect, described as a slim-built man of dark complexion, was dressed in dark jeans and a blue plaid shirt.
He reportedly emerged from the eastern side of the building and pointed a firearm at her, demanding the keys to her vehicle. Fearing for her life, she exited the vehicle. The assailant then grabbed her handbag, which contained $5,000 in cash, keys, and other personal items, before fleeing the scene in her silver Toyota Yaris Cross. The vehicle, valued at $270,000, was last seen heading west along Munroe Road. The stolen vehicle also contained two pairs of shoes valued at $1,000. Police launched a search operation involving officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), and Air Support Tactical, led by Derk Barnes that yielded no results.
Investigations are ongoing.
Police officers, civilian injured in crash
Two police officers and a civilian were injured during a two vehicular accident along the highway near Freeport on Wednesday morning. Initial information stated that around 3.05 am, a police constable was driving a marked police vehicle, accompanied by his female colleague, south along the Uriah Butler Highway on the left lane. Approximately 100 metres before the John Peter Walkover, they heard a loud noise and felt an impact. The police vehicle spun and ended up facing northeast on the extreme right lane. They then saw the driver of a blue Mazda 3, which was in a ditch on the eastern side of the highway, staggering as he exited. The back of the police vehicle, including the tailgate, spare tire, rear fenders and left rear rim and tire were damaged while the front of the Mazada was damaged.
The male police officer had injuries to his head, neck and back injuries while the female officer complained of neck, head, right shoulder and righthand injuries.
The Mazda 3 driver failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 55 mg. Henry was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for treatment, while the police officers were conveyed to the Eric Willians Medical Sciences Complex.
Chaguanas police officers are investigating.
