Early voters in San Juan/Barataria say they faced lengthy wait times before casting their ballots on Monday morning, either because of long lines or an unusually longer voter process at some polling stations
"A lot of people come and it will have congestion.
"It is not as fast as I think it should have been. Last (time) it was faster. It needed to move a little faster. My station didn't have a lot of people so I out a little quicker," said a voter named Sookhai who cast his ballot at the Febeau Government Primary School around 6.20 am.
The People's National Movement candidate for St Ann's East, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly and her family arrived at the school at 5.55 am to vote in the General Election. She came out with her stained finger at 6.45 am.
She explained her wait time was due to the large number of people with her.
She said, "As we see when I vote I don't vote alone. It's a family of about 12 strong and we come down early, every election morning, we come down early, we aim for six and we vote."
While Gadsby-Dolly was casting her vote, United National Congress candidate for San Juan/Barataria Saddam Hosein visited the polling station.
He explained that he was largely pleased with the early turnout of voters at the stations he visited.
"This morning, what I have done is I started to rove around the constituency to make sure everything is in order. I have seen some of the polling stations, there are lines already which is a good thing, it means that persons are expected and are anticipating to vote. We encourage everyone to exercise their franchise," Hosein said.
