The ‘Mas­ter Artist’ has been cre­mat­ed.

The last rites for artist ex­tra­or­di­naire LeRoy Clarke, who passed away on Tues­day were per­formed on Wednes­day.

A state­ment from the fam­i­ly of the 82-year-old Mas­ter Artist stat­ed that fol­low­ing a pri­vate tran­si­tion cer­e­mo­ny Clarke was cre­mat­ed at Bel­groves in Trinci­ty.

The process, the re­lease said, was done in ac­cor­dance with Clarke’s wish­es which were made clear to his fam­i­ly.

 “Dad­dy was very ex­plic­it with his fi­nal wish­es and he en­trust­ed those clos­est to him to en­sure what he want­ed was car­ried out to the let­ter,” Clarke’s daugh­ter Adaeze Clarke wrote.

The re­lease said Clarke’s health had been on the de­cline for some time and be­ing ill dur­ing the pan­dem­ic, the once so­cia­ble Clarke was lim­it­ed to in­ter­act­ing with friends and loved ones via video and phone calls.

The fam­i­ly ex­pressed their grat­i­tude to the pub­lic for re­spect­ing their re­quests for pri­va­cy dur­ing this time of mourn­ing.

They dis­closed, via the re­lease, the pub­lic would have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to cel­e­brate the life of Clarke with a planned memo­r­i­al in Au­gust and sev­er­al ex­hi­bi­tions and ini­tia­tives to be staged both lo­cal­ly and in­ter­na­tion­al­ly.

“Gal­leries and mu­se­ums glob­al­ly have shown in­ter­est in the col­lec­tions. We will en­deav­our, of course, to make sure

the peo­ple of the Caribbean have ac­cess to his works and pub­li­ca­tions,” the re­lease said.
