A week after police found Savanna Dyer’s body in Carlsen Field, Chaguanas, investigators have charged a 21-year-old security officer from Laventille with her murder.
Kibwe Wells, of Quarry Street, East Dry River, is scheduled to appear before a High Court master at the South Court B today in connection with the incident.
Guardian Media was told that Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal reviewed the case file on Saturday and instructed officers to lay the charge. She also gave instructions to charge a second suspect, who remains under observation and treatment at the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital.
Officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, under the supervision of Supt Persad, ASP Maharaj, and Sgt Bridgemohan, conducted investigations into Dyer’s murder, while PC Lall officially charged Wells.
Videos of Dyer lying partially nude on the roadside sparked concern among the citizenry after her death.
The 21-year-old, of Diego Martin, was last seen on the night of June 13, liming at a Barataria bar with a group friends. Surveillance footage allegedly showed her entering a black vehicle afterwards. There was also a video of her being given an oversized diamond ring by a man. Another video of a man allegedly confessing to her murder also circulated.
Dyer’s body was discovered at Carlsen Field, Chaguanas, on June 14, and an autopsy conducted on her body revealed she was shot in the head.
