A Laventille teenager drowned while bathing in Chaguaramas on Saturday afternoon.
Police said around 3 pm Isaiah Pemberton, of Prizgar Lands, Laventille went to a beach behind Five Islands Waterpark, Chaguaramas with relatives.
While bathing, Pemberton and others got into difficulty. Attempts were made to pull him out of the water; however, he was pulled out to sea by the strong current.
Emergency responders and health services were called in to help. Coast Guard divers eventually retrieved his body around 4 pm.
He was taken to the St James Medical Complex, where attempts were made to revive him, which proved futile.
Pemberton was a student of the San Juan North Secondary School.
Yesterday, a group affiliated with the school on Facebook called SJNS Pride expressed condolences to the family and friends of the teenager.
