The long-de­layed Preysal Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and Palmiste Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School are among the ed­u­ca­tion projects Hous­ing Min­is­ter David Lee says are pri­or­i­ties for com­ple­tion.

Lee said the Gov­ern­ment was work­ing to­wards com­plet­ing the Preysal school, which has been op­er­at­ing from the Preysal Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre since 2014 af­ter work on a new school was halt­ed.

The Palmiste Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School, which was de­stroyed by fire in 2023, is al­so a pri­or­i­ty.

“I’m work­ing with the Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion to en­sure that these schools are com­plet­ed,” Lee said.

Lee was speak­ing with Guardian Me­dia yes­ter­day while de­liv­er­ing hun­dreds of school­bags to stu­dents in his Ca­roni Cen­tral con­stituen­cy from his Mis­sion Road, Freeport of­fice.

The ini­tia­tive, known as the Back­pack for Hope pro­gramme, is now in its 12th year and be­gan when Lee was the MP for Point-a-Pierre.

Lee said more than 600 school­bags, con­tain­ing sta­tionery need­ed by stu­dents for the new aca­d­e­m­ic year, would be dis­trib­uted over two days.
