Members of the public were left disappointed yesterday as driving permit services at the Princes Town Licensing Office were suspended due to sewer issues affecting the facility.
When Guardian Media visited the compound, several people were seen leaving after being informed that services had been suspended.
One worker who requested anonymity, stated that a foul scent was detected when they arrived for work, and they later learned that there was a sewer issue at the back of the container housing the photography section. Despite the unsanitary situation, the worker said staff were not allowed to leave.
Apart from the sewer problem, the worker said there were other issues including there being only one toilet for a staff of 35, cramped spaces, no lunch room and the dilapidated condition of the building.
The worker is hoping that the ministry eventually relocates them to a more suitable and comfortable building.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated that the suspension of services was temporary and noted that normal operations were expected to resume today.
The ministry assured that the matter was being treated with urgency and apologised for any inconvenience caused. —Sascha Wilson
