Investigations continue into a fatal hit-and-run accident yesterday morning in Arima.
Police said Simone Rose, 45, of Maloney Gardens, was killed on the spot.
Officers said the accident occurred around 6.30 am along the east-bound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, O’Meara, as Rose exited a taxi on the shoulder of the highway.
Highway Patrol officers responded to the report and found the victim.
Eyewitnesses claimed Rose came out of the taxi and was standing on the shoulder when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of that car, after striking Rose, sped off and failed to stop.
Onlookers were unable to provide officers with a license plate, except to describe the vehicle as white.
Emergency Health Services (EHS) were contacted and took the woman to the Arima Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Anyone with information has been urged by investigators to contact the nearest police station.
